Trying to come up with different medals for different lengths of the race? Here is a simple solution: same medal design in different sizes! Here is a great example we recently did for McKinney Half Marathon in Texas.
The Design
The organizers came up with a great idea of a having part of the medal semi-transparent. There is a special technique we use to create this see-through effect using semi-transparent ink. It can be with any Pantone color so the possibility is endless! The race also consists of a 5K and half marathon, in order to encourage more participant for the half marathon, it is a significantly larger medal, wider ribbon than the 5K race. It is a simple and great to create excitement and unique experience for each part of the race.
The Production
Our design team decided that a great contrast for the transparent ink will be to use black dye metal for the coating. Did you know that we can create different color dye coating for medals? Check out our medal coating chart for more information! Once the mold is made we tested a few different opacity of green ink to get the right look for the medal. A sample medal is then finalized and sent to the client for approval. Each and every medal is than hand colored for the finished product.
